The N-Word Should…Should We Use It

Posted by blazzin on May 24, 2007

In light of recent events I felt impelled to place this topic on my blog… Not because every person in America is talking about it but because I feel as if this minor issue is making everyone skirt the real issues that plague African Americans. What troubles me is that all the news channels that has covered the topic of the infamous N-Word always choose to pic African Americans that in my opinion are not a good representation of our community and at the end of the interview we (because in America the voice of 1 African American represents the MAJORITY not the minority) end up looking more ignorant than before.

Here are 7 reasons why we need to focus on the real issues that plague African Americans….

7. Fewer than 8% of young African American men have graduated from college Compared to 17% of whites and 35% of Asians. Differences in income by educational level are well documented, as are racial and ethnic differences in income by educational level.1 People with more education tend to have higher incomes, but in 2002 at every educational level, African Americans with the same education made less than whites.Source:

6.  Over 20% of African America Men live in Poverty

Compaired to 18% Hispanic 12% Asian and 10% White

5.  African American suffer the worst health than any other race in America.

According to

  • Black men live 7.1 years less than other racial groups
  • They have higher death rates than women for all leading causes of death
  • They experience disproportionately higher death rates in all the leading causes of death
  • 40% of black men die prematurely from cardiovascular disease as compared to 21% of white men
  • They have a higher incidence and a higher rate of death from oral cancer
  • Black men are 5 times more likely to die of HIV/AIDS

4. African American men  have a  high suicide rate. It is the 3rd leading cause of death in 15 to 24 year olds  Source:

3. Black Homocide on the Rise

Here are Blazin News top 10 topics that are MORE important than the N-WORD!

According to  “Blacks represent 13% of the population but 47% of all homicide victims; for Blacks aged 15 to 24, 40% of all deaths were homicides. Pennsylvania has the highest black homicide rate, followed by Louisiana. Montana and South Dakota have the lowest rates. “

2.  African American Men Represent 40% of the Prison Population

African American men are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system. The percentage of young African American men in prison is nearly three times that of Hispanic men and nearly seven times that of white men (Fig. 4). While African American men represent 14% of the population of young men in the U.S., they represent over 40% of the prison population.4 This figure does not include the number of young men on parole.

According to CDC “The latest Centers for Disease Control report1 on the US epidemic shows that in 2005, 73% of people diagnosed with AIDS were men. Within the African American population, men represent 65% of AIDS cases.”
